Construction began in 1999 for the $2.5 million Franklin Community Center. The 35,000 ft2 building contains a climbing wall, activity rooms, a state of the art fitness facility, walking track, day-care area, basketball and racquetball courts, a performing arts theatre, outdoor pool and the Parks Department Offices. The final cornerstone of the project, formerly known as Celebration Hall (now Beeson Hall), comprising 7,000 ft2 of reception hall and kitchen area was beyond the project budjet of $2.5 million. In response to the desire for this hall, the parks department established a fund raising committee and secured the additional funds to finish this space. Construction was complete in 2000.
