The most recent renovation of the historic Deere Building on the Courthouse Square in Franklin, Indiana marks the relocation of the Franklin City Hall from the old post office building. Prince|Alexander Partners, Inc. designed the renovation of the Deere building 15 years ago from a Tee-shirt silk screen factory for the corporate offices for Family Wealth Advisors. By making the most of the industrial past uses into a historic chic with bold carpet patterns, exposed brick walls and open office floor plans, the renovation brought out the best of the contemporary and historic architectural features. Now that the City Hall and public service features had to be considered, major structural reorganization had to be incorporated so that the public meeting room and City Council Chambers could allow more open lines of sight, larger public meetings and multi-media presentations. The City’s public address and broadcast production technology were brought into the 21st century with modern digital projectors, recording systems and the ability for each council member to have data access at their council desk. The requirements for larger seating capacity required that several structural columns be removed on the first floor of the three story building. By installing a 30 inch deep beam and new foundations for the heavier structure an open council room was created. The flow of citizen traffic to customer service counters on the upper floors created the need to meet the public demands of Franklin’s expanding population. In addition, the facility allows the city to put its best foot forward in appealing to new companies form all over the world. Bill DeWees Construction was the general contractor and the casework and Cabinetry were built and installed Richeson Cabinets. .
